Articles 286–340: Lodging, Guards, Colors, and Internal Service
After establishing the philosophical foundations and chain of responsibility, Titre XX turned to the physical reality of regimental life: how the barracks were organized, how the regimental colors were guarded, how the internal service was managed week by week, and who was responsible for what.
Articles 286–295 — Barracks Organization
Each regiment or battalion's lodging was always arranged according to the order of battle of the companies. The sergeant-major of each company assigned specific rooms to each squad, with the corporal's bed at the end nearest the door. Soldiers slept two to a bed. Weapons were placed in racks in the rooms, always loaded and ready. Each room had a lantern. The sergeant of the week inspected every room daily, verifying that nothing was out of order. Soldiers could not change rooms without the captain's permission.
Articles 296–310 — The Guard of the Colors
The regimental colors (drapeaux, étendarts, guidons) were the physical embodiment of the regiment's honor. A permanent guard was posted at the colonel's or commander's quarters where the colors were kept. The guard of the colors took precedence over all other internal duties. The sergeant-major of the grenadier company commanded this guard. Detailed protocols governed when the colors were brought out, how they were carried, and who escorted them. Drums beat specific calls when the colors moved. The colors were never left unguarded — not for a moment.
Articles 310–340 — Police Guards and the Weekly Service
A police guard was always posted at the main gate of the quarters, its strength proportionate to circumstances. The captain of police (capitaine de police) oversaw the regiment's internal order for one week, rotating among the captains. Officers of the week, sergeants of the week, and corporals of the week each had specific duties: inspecting rooms, supervising distributions, maintaining order in the barracks. The service week ran from Sunday after parade to the following Sunday. A detailed register tracked all internal service. The adjudant major oversaw the regiment's daily administration, forming a critical link between the colonel's orders and the companies' execution.

Articles 286–295 — Organisation des casernes
Le logement de chaque régiment ou bataillon était toujours assis selon l'ordre de bataille des compagnies. Le sergent-major de chaque compagnie assignait des chambres spécifiques à chaque escouade, avec le lit du caporal au bout le plus proche de la porte. Les soldats dormaient à deux par lit. Les armes étaient placées dans des râteliers dans les chambres, toujours chargées et prêtes. Chaque chambre avait une lanterne. Le sergent de semaine inspectait chaque chambre quotidiennement. Les soldats ne pouvaient pas changer de chambre sans la permission du capitaine.
Articles 296–310 — La garde des drapeaux
Les drapeaux du régiment (drapeaux, étendards, guidons) étaient l'incarnation physique de l'honneur du régiment. Une garde permanente était postée au logement du colonel ou du commandant où les drapeaux étaient conservés. La garde des drapeaux avait la préséance sur toutes les autres fonctions internes. Le sergent-major de la compagnie de grenadiers commandait cette garde. Des protocoles détaillés régissaient quand les drapeaux étaient sortis, comment ils étaient portés, et qui les escortait. Les tambours battaient des appels spécifiques quand les drapeaux se déplaçaient. Les drapeaux n'étaient jamais laissés sans garde — pas un instant.
Articles 310–340 — Gardes de police et service hebdomadaire
Une garde de police était toujours postée à la porte principale du quartier, sa force proportionnée aux circonstances. Le capitaine de police surveillait l'ordre intérieur du régiment pendant une semaine, en rotation parmi les capitaines. Les officiers de semaine, sergents de semaine et caporaux de semaine avaient chacun des fonctions spécifiques : inspecter les chambres, surveiller les distributions, maintenir l'ordre dans les casernes. La semaine de service allait du dimanche après la parade au dimanche suivant. Un registre détaillé suivait tout le service intérieur.
